Development of a New Empirical Relation to Assess P-wave Velocity Anisotropy of Rocks

Several physical parameters and anisotropy related to rock textural arrangements, schistosity weakness planes such as cracks joints affect the P-wave velocity (VP). First, VP of quartz-mica schist a common type widespread metamorphic was compared with jointed homogeneous limestone specimens clarify effect these two different types anisotropies. The results showed that texture is stronger than limestone, because all body have behavior. Many rocks are anisotropic degree varies from one another. Various investigations been carried out on but there not unique comprehensive relation represent influence degrees for rocks. between angle (?) axis symmetry (perpendicular planes) wave propagation direction analyzed wide range using nine including: Angouran schist, Golgohar mica amphibole mica-quart Marcellus shale, Withby shale WUK47B, WUK70 WUK2, Veroia-Polymylos gneiss. A new simple empirical fitted groups obtained assess anisotropies good correlation determination (R2 = 0.937), low RMSE (RMSE 320 m/s) CV (CV 7.0%). P can simply be predicted by developed only VP0 VP90 or ? percentage change respect VP90. classification diagram also based values ?.
